This sketch is directly inspired by the "fantasy landscape with ruined fortress on the Lagoon" by Francesco Guardi, who belonged to the Newhouse Gallery in New York. Same dimensions, both table have a similar layout and identical details: boats, people, piles driven into the water, only the styles are totally different, the version of the museum Cognac-Jay being simplifié.L'oeuvre gate, bottom right, monogrammed with the letter is almost unreadable.
